1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Similar technologies include local storage and session identifiers used by the chat widget.
2. How KrestChat uses cookies
Essential (required)
- Session cookies — keep agents and superadmins logged in securely.
- Security cookies — support CSRF protection and abuse prevention where enabled.
- Widget session — remembers a visitor’s chat session on the customer’s website so the conversation continues if the page reloads.
Functional
- Preferences such as notification settings in the agent dashboard.
- Widget UI state (open/closed) on some installations.
Analytics (if enabled)
- Basic product usage to improve reliability. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on the core product by default.
3. Third parties
- Paystack — may set cookies during checkout.
- Fonts / CDN (e.g. Google Fonts, cdnjs) — may receive technical requests when pages load.
- Customer websites — sites that embed the KrestChat widget may have their own cookies and policies.
4. Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent login or the chat widget from working correctly.
For the widget on a third-party site, use that site’s cookie controls as well.
5. Local storage
The widget may store a session key or visitor id in local storage/session storage so messages stay linked to the same visitor. This is required for the service to function.
6. Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy when our practices change. See the date at the top of this page.
